Interacting One-Dimensional Electrons Driven by Two-Dimensional Reservoir Electrons
We derive an effective 1D theory from the Hamiltonian of the 3D system which consists of a mesoscopic conductor and reservoirs. We assume that the many-body interaction have the same magnitude in the conductor as that in the reservoirs, in contrast to the previous theories which made the ad hoc assumption that the many-body interaction were absent in the reservoirs. We show the following: (i) T...
متن کاملPure Hydrogen and Nitrogen by Photo- Electrons
The fact that our northern trees and shrubs after they become dormant in the fall require a period of chilling before warm weather will start them into growth again, is a protective adaptation of the highest importance to these plants, for if warmth alVne would start them into growth they would begin growing in Indian summer and the stored food that the plant requires for its normal vigorous gr...
متن کاملIon acceleration by hot electrons in microclusters
A self-consistent analytical description is presented for collisionless expansion of a fully ionized cluster with a two-component electron distribution. The problem is solved for an initial “water-bag” distribution of hot electrons with no angular momentum, which reflects the mechanism of electron heating. This distribution evolves in time due to adiabatic cooling of hot electrons. The solution...
متن کاملMagnetic monopole field exposed by electrons
The experimental search for magnetic monopole particles1–3 has, so far, been in vain. Nevertheless, these elusive particles of magnetic charge have fuelled a rich field of theoretical study4–10. Here, we created an approximation of a magnetic monopole in free space at the end of a long, nanoscopically thin magnetic needle11. We experimentally demonstrate that the interaction of this approximate...
متن کاملRotational excitation of H2O by cold electrons.
Experimental data are presented for the scattering of electrons by H2O between 17 and 250 meV impact energy. These results are used in conjunction with a generally applicable method, based on a quantum defect theory approach to electron-polar molecule collisions, to derive the first set of data for state-to-state rotationally inelastic scattering cross sections based on experimental values.
